BLACK ROCK DENTAL CLINIC
A calmer coastal identity for a modern dental clinic.
A dated and awkwardly planned practice was transformed into a warm, family-friendly and visually memorable clinic inspired by the Black Rock coastline.
BRIEF: Modern, welcoming, family-friendly and highly visual.

OUTCOME: Calm, contemporary and more brand-defining patient experience.
Inspired by the nearby Black Rock coastline, the design uses beach-led tones, timber warmth and restrained detailing to create a clinic that feels both local and elevated.
What needed to change
An awkwardly shaped plan that did not feel resolved.
A front-of-house that felt sparse and utilitarian.
A need for stronger street presence and patient warmth.
A more cohesive identity across reception, waiting and treatment spaces.

The Brief
The objective was to transform the practice into a modern, welcoming and highly “Instagrammable” space with a strong family-friendly feel, while refreshing the entire experience from the street through to the consulting rooms and bathroom facilities.
The room now reads as warm, layered and intentionally residential in tone, helping the clinic feel more approachable for families while still remaining clear and professional.
Reception
The reception desk became the project’s visual anchor. Vertical timber battens, terrazzo surfaces, warm lighting, sage pendants and curated art deliver a more polished first impression while maintaining the cleanliness expected in a healthcare setting.
Waiting Room
The waiting area was redesigned as a family-friendly and highly photogenic zone, with built-in seating, sheer curtains, sculptural mirror forms and softened edges that replace the clinical hardness of the original layout.
Transformation
The redesign is clearest in the front-of-house, where the original reception and waiting areas have been replaced by a warmer, more resolved environment that communicates care, quality and calm from the first impression.
The outcome
The practice now feels calm, modern and inviting, with a stronger connection to its Black Rock setting and a much more memorable first impression. The redesign improves patient experience while giving the clinic a warmer and more distinctive brand identity.
Clinical Continuity
The treatment spaces and amenities were refreshed so the patient journey remains coherent beyond reception. The completed rooms feel clean, practical and professional, while sitting more comfortably within the upgraded overall identity of the practice.
Material Language
Timber battens, terrazzo, soft sage lighting, natural planting and local artwork create a palette that feels calm, fresh and subtly coastal. The result is family-friendly and design-led without losing the clarity and polish required for a dental practice..
Street Presence
The clinic now feels more approachable from the street, with filtered light through sheer drapery and a stronger sense of interior character visible from outside. This gives the practice a more memorable and welcoming identity before a patient even enters.
